Periodontology I/Oral Surgery I

September 6th and 7th, 2008

Punta Gorda, Florida

DAY 1  This lecture and wet lab will focus on gross and radiographic anatomy and physiology of the oral cavity as it relates to periodontal pathology, subgingival curettage, closed root planing, envelope and releasing flaps for open root planing, perioceutic and synthetic bone placement, case approaches to periodontal disease and treatment planning.   

DAY 2 This day involves a short lecture and extensive wet lab that will focus on the latest techniques to facilitate less traumatic extractions by utilizing mucoperiosteal flaps, line angle incisions, sectioning, bone removal, bone contouring and suturing. 

Lecture and wet lab are conducted in the Veterinary Dental Education Center where each participant has his/her own high speed delivery system and equipment. Breakfast and lunch are provided.  Attendance is limited to the first 8 registrants.   This program is intended to provide 15 hours of accredited continuing education.

Veterinary Dental Technician Weekend

This is a comprehensive wet lab and lecture series for veterinary technicians interested in learning more about veterinary dentistry and expanding the scope of the dentistry services in their practices.  Subjects include oral examination, charting, equipment, instrumentation, patient monitoring, potential problems and complications, oral disease recognition, pain management, radiology, periodontology and client communication.  This program is intended to provide 15 hours of accredited continuing education.

The lecture is conducted in the Veterinary Dental Education Center. Each student has his/her own work station.  A nerve block/radiographic positioning CD, breakfast and lunch are provided.  Attendance is limited to the first 12 registrants.

Feline Dentistry

Fall Retreat In Southwest Florida

 

October 11th & 12th, 2008

Punta Gorda, Florida

This lecture and wet lab focuses on feline dentistry, oral surgery and radiology. Periodontal disease, surgical and non-surgical extractions, FORL’s, stomatitis and diseases of the feline oral cavity are covered in lecture and significant time is spent in the wetlab.

Radiographic positioning, technique and interpretation are approached in a novel teaching approach that simplifies veterinary dental radiography for cats. Both digital and film developing are discussed. Participants utilize state of the art digital imaging systems to obtain immediate feedback from positioning in the lab.

Lecture and wet lab are conducted in the Veterinary Dental Education Center where each participant has his/her own high speed delivery system and equipment.

Mock Examination

3 DAYS of Practical, Written and Bench Exams

December 5th, 6th & 7th 2008

Punta Gorda, Florida

The mock examination is intended to provide candidates in the AVDC Resident or Alternate Pathway Training Program an opportunity to experience circumstances similar to those encountered in the practical, written and bench examination.  Participants will be required to bring all materials to be used in the examination.  Each person will have a high speed delivery system.  A dental radiography unit will be available for each 4-5 participants.  We will utilize digital radiography for the examination and this will also be provided.

Note:  High speed and low speed handpieces are not provided and will need to be supplied by the participant.  Stone model creation will not be a part of this examination.  Setup will be from 4:30pm to 6:00pm Thursday December 4th.  The exam starts at 8:30 am Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Breakfast and additional setup at 7:30 am. Lunch is also provided.  Attendance is limited to the first 9 registrants.
